Welcome to Mellow's Log Cabin. This blog's purpose is to supply information on a diversity of American southern music - ranging from country, blues, old-time and folk to R&B, rock'n'roll and rockabilly. I regularly present my research results about artists, labels, shows and also give guest writers a chance to publish their texts here on occasion.

Merry Christmas!

Jim Harless and the Lonesome Valley Boys - Banjo Bells (Shadow 104)

I slowed down my postings during December and won't post anything new until the new year. I wish y'all out there a merry christmas and a happy new year, the best wishes for 2013. And of course, keep on visiting Mellow's Log Cabin! I have lined up some very interesting things for January, so stay tuned!

The song presented today is by Jim Harless, who grew up in Bristol, Tennessee. He had a radio show on WKRM in Carthage, Tennessee, and recorded "Rock & Roll Fever Ain't Got Me" b/w "Banjo Bells" for Shadow (also located in Bristol) sometimes in the 1950s. At that time, Ray Jones was his banjo player and can be heard here. Harless eventually moved to Texas and led the the house band at Panther Hall in Fort Worth, Texas. He died around 2001.

I posted the flip last year here.
