Welcome to Mellow's Log Cabin. This blog's purpose is to supply information on a diversity of American southern music - ranging from country, blues, old-time and folk to R&B, rock'n'roll and rockabilly. I regularly present my research results about artists, labels, shows and also give guest writers a chance to publish their texts here on occasion.

The Best of Country & Western, Volume 2

Europa CD, VA. I discovered this one some years ago in my mum's record collection and it was this compilation and brought country music to my notice. This is country music's image here in Germany, a bit of truck drivin' Dace Dudley, one of Johnny Cash's early sun sides and other sixties and seventies country stuff coupled with an image of two lonesome cowboys, corny right? Europa was an european label that mostly produced LPs and albums with cover versions of hits (I have an LP with version of "See You Later Alligator" and "Let's Twist Again" by the Rudi Bohn Orchestra!). Several of the tracks on this comp are also covers. The obscure Nashville Gamblers are no american band, I think they come from Hamburg, Germany, and are still playing here. Maybe, the Blue River Connection is another of these cover bands. Anyway, hope you like it!

track listing:
1. Bobby Bare - Just In Case a Night ike This
2. Merle Travis - Gambler's Guitar (live)
3. Nashville Gamblers - Who's Gonna Be Your Man
4. George Jones - You Comb Her Hair
5. Donna Fargo - Sticks and Stones
6. Bobby Bare - Roses are Red, My Love
7. Nashville Gamblers - That Tavern In Town
8. Dave Dudley - He Doesn't Live There Anymore
9. Nashville Gamblers - Whoopee Ti Yi Yo
10. Johnny Cash - Folsom Prison Blues
11. Bobby Bare - Just The Side of Nowhere
12. Jim McLee - Rhinestone Cowboy
13. Barbara Shelton - Coal Miner's Daughter
14. Blue River Connection - Me and Bobby McGee
15. Dolly Parton - Honky Tonk Angels
16. Dave Dudley - I Was Country Before Barbara Mandrell
17. Nashville Gamblers - Goin' Up Cripple Creek
18. Don Williams - Follow Me Back To Louisville
