Welcome to Mellow's Log Cabin. This blog's purpose is to supply information on a diversity of American southern music - ranging from country, blues, old-time and folk to R&B, rock'n'roll and rockabilly. I regularly present my research results about artists, labels, shows and also give guest writers a chance to publish their texts here on occasion.

Great Rockabilly: Just About As Good As It Gets!

This time a review: a few months ago, I presented Great Rockabilly, Vol.2, and now here's the first volume. On two CDs you will find the best rockabilly tracks in history. A booklet (by Dave Travis) informs a little bit about the artists, but it could be better.

The songs are very good. There are tracks by well-known musicians like Johnny Burnette, Carl Perkins, Johnny Cash, Elvis Presley, Warren Smith, Eddie Bond, Janis Martin and Roy Orbison (with four titles!) but this set also features rare tracks by Tommy Spurlin ("Hang Loose"), Slim Rhodes ("Do What I Do"), Malcolm Yelvington (Sun alternative "Yakety Yak") and Thumper Jones' cover of the Elvis-hit "Heartbreak Hotel". There's a whole lotta more shakin' goin' on on these two CDs!

In my opinion, this is the best compilation of rockabilly I ever bought. Worth to buy it at: Amazon.de and Amazom.com.
